Cathay Pacific is the airline based at Hong Kong International Airport on lantau Island operating to over 120 destinations in 37 countries around the world.

Cathay Pacific came into being way back in 1946 and was the brainchild of two ex American air force pilots. Initially operating a single Douglas DC3 aircraft out of Hong Kong passenger were restricted to Bangkok, Manila and Singapore. The airline prospered and grew steadily through the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s taking advantage of the boom in air travel with the advent of modern jet airliners. Cathay acquired it’s first jet aircraft, a Convair 880, in the early 1960’s and took delivery of the first of it’s many Boeing 747 aeroplanes in 1974 and the "Jumbo Jet" remains the backbone of its 116 aircraft fleet to this day. Cathay Pacific has significant stakes in Hong Kong Airways, Dragon Air and Air Hong Kong. On board passengers enjoy excellent service and Cathay have twice won the prestigious Skytrax award which is presented to airlines who top international traveller surveys to find the best airline, cabin staff, airline lounge, in-flight entertainment and on-board catering. In fact since 1999 Cathay has won awards in many catagories every single year. Cathay Pacific is the founder member of the One World Alliance which currently has 10 member airlines who together have a worldwide route network of over 700 destinations.
Cathay Pacific operates a modern fleet of 116 Boeing747 and 777 plus Airbus A330 and 340 aircraft and is due to take delivery of a further 46 aircraft before 2012.
